Could be a good thread as we navigate the off-season. Arsenal have already brought in Granit Xhaka. Good signing, I reckon. We're also heavily linked with a £50m bid for Alvaro Morata. I sure as fuck hope not - his goal scoring record is atrocious! That being said, I don't see Wenger fucking about this window. I expect at least 2 more QUALITY players in (Striker, and Central Defender). matt

He has a respectable goals:games ratio (For Arsenal: 82 goals in 188 games, 0.43 rate). The problem isn't Giroud. But we do need another striker, in addition - no doubt about that.

EDIT: mourinho finally confirmed. should be an interesting couple of years at the least...

Xhaka is just the kind of signing Arsenal have been crying out for ages - strong, cool headed and resilient. Get a partnership on the go with Elneny who has been impressive since arriving, and they may just get that much needed steel back into the club.

Well Vardy is all but an Arsenal player. Should be announced tomorrow, I reckon.
Risky, but potentially good, signing. I'm a bit weary about it, to be honest.

Nah, I'm alright about it. 20 million for a 30 year old who is a one-season-wonder? No thanks. That said, Vardy just made a massive mistake on his end. We do need a striker, though.

I do believe Arsene will buy - there's no way he won't after last season (surely!?!) But I'm so fucking sick of the same pattern year after year. I guess he's waiting for after the Euros, but it's doing my anxiety right in. Striker + Center Defender and we'll be fine. FFS, Arsene. Every beginning has broken its promise, too right.

Not sure where to post this but Independent- Klopp signs six year dealAny thoughts to this? This for me has shades of Newcastle United F.C. with Alan Pardew on it, as although Klopp is a better manager I don't think he will last six years at Liverpool owing to the fact that unlike my side (Everton) they haven't quite got over the idea that their club is not longer one of the modern big sides in Europe, and perhaps even England with Arsenal, Spurs, the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea taking the latter roles. The problem with clubs like Liverpool and Everton at times is that supporters and even board members live in the glory days of the past and cannot see how much things have changed, and I can include Newcastle United in the next statement that having a large worldwide fanbase does not make for a successful sporting club. Beyond that transfer spending in the EPL for clubs outside the top six looks like it will increase even further with attempts to cement league status and try to challenge for Europe. The likes of Crystal Palace with new investment, West Ham United and their taxpayer funded stadium ( ) and even Bournemouth have all begun the transfer window with seemingly big offers for average to decent players which is an indicator of where the league is heading. I hope this will level the playing field somewhat and perhaps with the big sides having off seasons we will see maybe not such outsiders as Leicester City but certainly not as heavily fancied title winners in the coming years. Anyone else feel that the Championship won't be the foregone conclusion Aston Villa and Newcastle United fans seem to think it will be on football forums, or are those two certain to bounce straight back up? Both have managers with Premier League CV's but the Championship is a totally different league and if they aren't challenging for the top two spots by Christmas it will cause issues with their owners and supporters. Also I could be wrong on this but I can see Rafa Benitez perhaps being a candidate for the Spanish national manager role, which would put Newcastle back where they started in terms of progress. Few thoughts for the day as pre-season gets underway

Yes along with Dwight Gayle from Newcastle United who IIRC had an average goals to matches ratio of 1 in 3 even in League One. Matt Ritchie is an odd one as only in the middle of May West Ham United reportedly offered £25M for him and Callum Wilson which was rejected out of hand by The Cherries, although Eddie How claimed it was less money for the bid than was reported. I can only assume off the back of that Newcastle have offered silly money in terms of not only transfer fees but also wages in an attempt to come straight back up, which if it backfires could see them joining the likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday in the wilderness of outside top tier football. On another subject have the Thompson family actually put Dundee United up for sale? I heard there were plans to in April but nothing since.

Aye its just mental how much average players like them go for in England these days, I would feel so disconnected as a fan if I supported any of the bigger clubs down there. Watching all these duds picking up huge salaries whilst the club charges you a fortune to get in and owned by people who ultimately don't care about the club. United are not officially up for sale but they are "actively seeking investment". They have lost the most of the support so I think most fans think that is bullshit! I'm more pragmatic, Stephen Thompson has fucked up big time over the last 18 months but when you look at the bigger picture, he's actually done a decent job. His biggest failure was backing Jackie McNamara for too long.

This is a few years old, but with the Premier League kicking off in one month (Arsenal vs. Liverpool, August 14) the message is as salient as ever.

Arsenal should sign Dennis Bergkamp. Oh wait... They could as a 'next in line' for Arsene Wenger since he has experience having already served as assistant manager to Frank de Boer, and Jaap Stam has already made the move from coaching at Ajax to managing at Championship side Reading F.C.
