Came here to post this as well. Shocking news from today. I think it's a case of Josh wanting to do more solo stuff and Froosh showing an interest in being back with the band. I wish we could get both of them in the band together, because we'd get some awesome material, but I think we may still see Josh around for some shows and stuff, just in less of a capacity. But God Bless Josh. IWY and The Getaway are still good albums with quality songs that I hope will still get played some. I worry that this may turn the band into a legacy act because Josh's presence was pushing the band forward. Did I Let You Know? is still one of my favorite Chilis songs and it's a World music spin on the Chilis sound that I really, really enjoy. Monarchy of Roses was similar in that sense, but with a more electronic disco rock spin on the sound. Police Station, Ethiopia, This is the Kitt, Hanalei, Catch My Death, Pink as Floyd, the first eight tracks on The Getaway, Encore, and Dreams of a Samurai were also other songs that focused on different aspects of the Chilis sound while still having somewhat of a familiar sound and feel to it. I think that John will keep this going (if this is all true of course) and actualize what I think the band was about to hit on, much like what I think Josh was about to do with the band's forthcoming album, but I do worry about jeers and outcry from people expecting this to be just like old times and the music to be just like old times. The shows will still be in that vein, but I think the band has moved on, which I think is fine since I think that could be fruitful and really good-sounding for the band. Of course, I'm fully ready to be proven wrong and be the witness of a fully-funky album that sounds fresh and good, and reaks nothing of "legacy act" status (especially with rumors of them possibly working with George Clinton), but I don't want the band to be pressured into going down that route with the (supposed) return of Froosh and having the album be a run-of-the-mill comeback reunion affair. I'm glad that Josh kept the band together, the material that made up IWY, the b-sides and The Getaway have stuff that is worth listening to, but there was a stigma of it isnt the BSSM/Cali lineup. Also glad that the band could play songs from OHM and not just pretend it didnt happen like 1999-2007. Hopefully this time around Frusciante plays some of the Josh material, or they release new stuff before touring because what would be the point in the nostalgia act? I think JF left after stadium arcadium because he wanted to put new stuff out quicker than what the band was willing to. And they have a kindof tour booked for next year as well.

Hard to say how this would sound on the album but music wise this is almost like shoegaze/noise rock but the vocals make it punk which is an interesting mix!

You can put this aside Oceans, Chinese Sleep Chant, and Major Minus as one of Coldplay's non-single gems.

MGMT's new stuff is really good.
Indebted to The Cure so wears its influences on its sleeve but much better than the mid career dip they had after the first album.

Fantastic song (and great gritty bassline) from a very underrated band:

Been spamming this little Madchester playlist for a week or so:
1. Can You Dig It? - The Mock Turtles 2. Waterfall - The Stone Roses 3. The Only One I Know - The Charlatans 4. True Faith - New Order 5. Columbia - Oasis 6. Step On - The Happy Mondays 7. Commercial Reign - The Inspiral Carpets 8. Come Home - James 9. Fool's Gold - The Stone Roses
If anyone has any good Manchester-vibes songs, let me know.

Billie Eilish to sing the new Bond tune - an intriguing choice and I like it, better than the predictable cliched dirges of Adele and Sam Smith's songs from the last two films.
Interestingly, Hans Zimmer will be composing the soundtrack with Johnny Marr. Two things excite me - the possibility of Johnny playing the famous Bond riff but, as the composers usually help in arranging the title track, could this mean that Johnny Marr will play with Billie Eilish? A world away from The Smiths!

Like the films themselves, the Bond themes are weighted heavily in terms of woeful misses compared to hits. But this seems an edgier, more forward thinking choice and I hope the film reflects that.

A world away from The Smiths! I’ve never heard that. Usually they get a person to score the bond movie but then they get an outsider to do the theme song. I don’t believe there is any cross over in production duties. Definitely not with the last 3 bond films.

But every Bond theme up until Quantum of Solace had input from the composer. A-ha infamously clashed with John Barry in terms of how to approach The Living Daylights.

There's another mediocre Eminem album in the world. Yay, I suppose. Your post was the first I heard of this. I went to the iTunes homepage after reading it to look at the cover and the track names and that. I’ve never got round to listening to his discography in the depth I would like to, but he’s still impacted on my life through those late 90s/early 00s hits; and I remember the hype in the schoolyard when he returned in 2009. And, I’ve gotta tell ya, it bums me out to see him looking so ridiculous with that Billy Mays style beard he sports now. Every decade yields its share of horrific fashion trends. Personally, I was a big one for “wet look” gel that made my hair stand on end for many years. And it seems to me that, when it comes to men’s fashion blunders, the early 2010s gave us the man bun, while the scourge of the last few years has been the painted beard which stops abruptly at the chin. Anyway. The music. Is it true he raps about the Manchester Arena bombing?

And it seems to me that, when it comes to men’s fashion blunders, the early 2010s gave us the man bun, while the scourge of the last few years has been the painted beard which stops abruptly at the chin. Anyway. The music. Is it true he raps about the Manchester Arena bombing? He references it on one of the earlier tracks, quite a predictable "I'm waiting to drop bombs like I'm outside an Ariana Grande concert" line. It's the only thing that has got people talking about the album, so I suppose it did it's job. It's just that he used to come across as your crazy friend who said stuff that was over the line but you still couldn't help but like, and now he comes across as the bitter old drunk in the corner of the pub hoping someone starts a fight with him. Some of the songs aren't that bad. There's one called Darkness, which interpolates The Sound of Silence and draws a song-long metaphor between a mass shooter and a performer waiting to go on stage, which is darkly compelling. Some of the bangers are good, too, like You Gon Learn and Yah Yah (Royce Da 5'9, who is a much better rapper than Em at this point, features on both), but the majority of the album is stuff you'll have already heard from him, just with slightly better production: lots of fast rapping, lots of being bitter at people not loving all his albums, lots of Dad Jokes, lots of songs about his parents, lots of "I'm about to go crazy, Slim Shady, yadda yadda" stuff, and lots of weird sex songs for a guy who's almost 50. His biggest fans will probably be happy with it, but for me it feels like a retread.

I’m not sure Death In Vegas is still a thing or not but I wouldn’t mind if they ever produce a Kasabian album.
