Never understood the popularity of Somewhere Only We Know. That guy out of Keane has such a shit voice. Something about it I can’t stand - the bellowing, the over earnestness to it. Awful singer, awful band. Everybody's Changing is an absolute TUNE. Makes no sense how it's apparently less popular than Somewhere Only We Know.

Nothing In My Way is another great tune, but that's as far as my Keane knowledge goes.

For me I love Arctic Monkeys's debut and am largely indifferent to everything after. Especially the last one. I am biased though as WPSIATWIN was one of the first albums I properly got into. I had a CD-R of it that I burned from my sister's iTunes... how things change! Rage Against the Machine are getting back together. I really, really hope they come to the UK. Glastonbury?

Their fanbase mostly right now is women in their 30s who were 16 back then.
Says it all.

This is probably the only rock song that I've fallen in love with this year. I've liked a lot of others, our very own One of Us amongst them, but the only one that's given me that real exhilerating, addictive feeling the best rock music does is this one.

This is probably my favourite from the album as well! It's really catchy. I happened to have a dream just last night where I was going to see them live and ended up in the backstage with Grian and their guitarist before the show lol

I am familiar with their most popular albums of the 90's and selected singles from the 80's and 2000's. And Collapse Into Now.

I liked some of Up and Great Beyond is one of their greatest singles imo. But it was definitely mostly downhill after their last Berry album.

If this was released around 2001-2002, they'd be a bigger band and found bigger success. I love Big, the opening track from the debut just really a great statement in the same vein as Rock N Roll Star.

Stereogum's Top Twenty Albums of the Decade:
1. To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar 2. Yeezus - Kanye West 3. Grimes – Art Angels 4. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West 5. Blonde - Frank Ocean 6. Good Kid, Mad City - Kendrick Lamar 7. Beyoncé - Beyoncé 8. Night Time, My Time - Sky Ferriera 9. E•MO•TION - Carly Rae Jepsen 10. Red - Taylor Swift 11. DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar 12. LCD Soundsystem – This Is Happening 13. Channel ORANGE - Frank Ocean 14. The Suburbs - Arcade Fire 15. Blackstar - David Bowie 16. Carrie & Lowell - Sufjan Stevens 17. Melodrama - Lorde 18. mbv - My Bloody Valentine 19. The Idler Wheel… - Fiona Apple 20. Body Talk - Robyn
Not a bad list, the ridiculous placement of Tay-Tay's second-best album aside. It's nice that Yeezus is getting the continued acclaim that it deserves. New Slaves is still one of the best songs I've ever heard, with perhaps the most orgasmic final minute of any track in my library.

I also did not think the last few albums were as good as the other ones (while still having some great songs), but, my god, that voice! There is a reason why Michael Stipe's voice for me was the most beautiful noise in the universe, right until I fell for Liam's. Of course, it is even better when that unbelievable voice is paired with a great song, no doubt about that.
But, my god, Stipe's voice!

So, Murmur was released as REM debut, doesnt have any guitar soloing, the first track sets the mood with Radio Free Europe and what a start it is! Wish the vocals were a bit more clear at times tho 🙃

I think I agree with James Acaster; 2016 was the best year for music, ever. - Blonde by Frank Ocean - Blackstar by David Bowie - The Life of Pablo by Kanye West - A Moon-Shaped Pool by Radiohead - 22, A Million by Bon Iver - Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown - Run the Jewels 3 by Run the Jewels - Lemonade by Beyonce - You Want it Darker by Leonard Cohen - Teens of Denial by Car Seat Headrest - We Got it From Here, Thanks For Your Service by A Tribe Called Quest - Colouring Book by Chance the Rapper - Skeleton Tree by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Anti by Rihanna - A Seat at the Table by Solange ...A ridiculous line-up. What year does everyone else have? Paul Simon's album from that year, Stranger to Stranger, was also strong.

Yesterday I listened to Reckoning the second REM album, some improvements in the (backing) vocal department. Solid album, but didnt had a moment where everything was great like Murmur/Radio Free Europe.
Listening to Fables of the Reconstruction in a little while.

And here's Afterlife, down from around 5:55 to around 5:15. Anyone who can tell me which forty seconds have disappeared wins a shiny sixpence.
