Gutted for Murray - a genuinely great tennis player who competed with the greatest tennis players ever. No small feat, and being able to measure himself up against the best gives clarity to how great he was. Arguably works in his favour that he competed along with geniuses and although he was the bonafide master that the other three were, I think his underdog status and his ability to be in with that crowd for so long is testament to his tenacity and spirit.
But it’s his personality I’ll miss too - for someone popularly known as a dullard, he’s always been bang on about the more topical conversations in the sport and his social media activity shed light on a pretty funny guy. Just a really normal guy, without a doubt the best sportsman Britain has ever produced.
Second only to Ronnie O'Sullivan IMO. Fantastic career, and just an unreal fighter of a man.
Fair argument, I definitely wouldn’t begrudge Ronnie top spot. Fascinating character and born genius.
Djokovic was great today, but I have to say, Federer is just ridiculous. 38 years of age, father of four, taking a prime Djoker to 12-12 in the fifth in the longest Wimbledon final ever, playing shots no-one else can. Greatest sportsman of all time, for me.
