I never got the love for Rock 'n' Roll Star that much, seems pretty mediocre for me - most days I actually prefer Shakermaker. Naah... I think ' Rock 'n' Roll Star' is very much underrated around here. It brings the punch of being one of the bands heavier tracks, contains a few real in your face guitar riffs, and scores big time in terms of melody; verse and chorus. It does this without ever becoming an 'epic' as well, which may seem an unusual point to make as the band has a whole bunch of great 'epics' under their belt, but there's always a whiff of pop balladry about them which I think lends them to be labelled as 'masterpieces' all too easily. The real elevating moment for me was honing in on Noel's backing vocals during the chorus, which up until then had pretty much passed me by (probably due to it being a 'meh' torrent download and the relative quietness of them). Near songwriting perfection for me and in my eye's Noel's best song. I think Noel rates it highly too... more than once has he said that he keeps thinking he's just written his best song until he hears "' Rock 'n' Roll Star' on the radio" and then thinks, hmm, maybe not. P.S. 'Shakermaker' is very underrated. It's really well written. I completely agree that Rock'n'Roll Star is brilliant song, without hesitation. That's one of the best Noel's songwriting. Are you thinking the same thing with "Morning Glory" ?

A good portion of my top 10 combine riff heavy songs with strong melodies throughout. 'Supersonic', 'Acquiesce', 'Headshrinker', 'My Big Mouth', 'Magic Pie', 'The Hindu Times', 'TIOBI', 'Falling Down' and 'Bag It Up' all stood a good shout, along with a few more obvious 90's tracks.

Ok. I had noticed looking at your ranking, that you love the Oasis "Big Rock". For me, Rock n Roll Star and Morning Glory are a little bit similar, that they are great rock songs with big guitars but also describing perfectly the state of mind of Noel at this time. In the DM era, he dreamed to be a rock n roll star and in the MG era, he knew what was the feeling a rock n roll star and he feeled a certain awareness .

Apart from the fact they're obviously both guitar heavy, I reckon they're pretty different tracks. I'd compare ' Morning Glory' with ' D'You Know What I Mean?' and ' Coming On Strong' before I would ' Rock 'n' Roll Star'. It's also probably worth mentioning at least 2/3rds of 'Morning Glory' (the song) was written before Definitely Maybe was even recorded. However one song that does bridge the gap between both tracks, is the new ' Lock All The Doors' which sound like both of them in little places. As great as that sounds, the reality is actually a little underwhelming.

Really hard to pick 5-10 for me... This probably changes every few months, but Listen Up and Rockin' Chair seem to have particular meaning for me right now.
1) Live Forever 2) Slide Away 3) Champagne Supernova 4) Cigarettes & Alcohol 5) Don't Look Back in Anger 6) D'You Know What I Mean? 7) Listen Up 8) The Importance of Being Idle 9) Acquiesce 10) Rockin' Chair
Really tough for me to leave off Don't Go Away, Supersonic, Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Gas Panic!
Edit: completely forgot Idler's Dream. Came on the mp3 player on random the other day and I was thinking it might be the most brilliant ballad Noel's ever written.

Purely personal favorites without some of the obvious ones, ranking pretty spontaneous:
- Morning glory - Bring it on down - Guess God thinks I'm Abel - Fade in-out - Acquiesce - Born on a different cloud - Gas Panic! - Where did it all go wrong - My big mouth - Pass me down the wine
As I guess they don't count but are dear to me: Take me, Alice

Usually BE and NGHFB can be included, is this just Oasis songs? If so, can we edit to top 20? In that case: Wonderwall Champagne Supernova Some Might Say D'You Know what I mean All around the world Songbird Stop crying your heart out Who feels love The shock of the lightning Cloudburst
