Just in case anyone's missed it, Noel had a few interesting things to say about the album in the new of issue of German "Musikexpress". I had already posted it in another thread, but there you go:
- Noel has a finished version of the AA album at home but only ever listened to it twice because it "sounds like shit and was recorded really badly" - he regrets not having been more involved into the production - he was afraid that releasing the AA album after the High Flyirds Birds debut would have "ruined his reputation" (yep) - he was genuinely disappointed by the collaboration - it cost him a fortune but will NEVER be released (his exact wording, translated to german, was: "Nein. Nein. Nein."), not even as part of a reissue or anthology. Only four people have ever heard it and they all reckon it sounds pretty bad

So Noel basically handed over the reigns to AA to do what they wanted with it. AA thought he'd be involved more. AA present Noel with the album, he doesn't like it, but they do. Noel decides not to release it. The End.

Just listened to that Paul Weller tune. It's not a bad song but the AA influence is laughable. It's almost like they press a 'psychedelia' preset on a keyboard and record whatever comes out, so shit.
I wish Noel would get Four Tet or someone current to remix one of his songs.

It would be hilarious if, after so much discussion, the album leaked one day and we all went 'ok, this is shit, no wonder Noel decided not to release it'

Commercial success is one thing, but if it's a good album, with Noel's name, even if it is a different brand of music, it will sell. The reason we won't hear AA or DIV is probably because they just aren't that good. But fans will always hold them up as holy grails, while they may just be shit recordings. I tend to take Noel at his word. What seems more believable? Noel recording a full album that's great and saying it will never see the light of day or Noel saying it's a shit album and will never see the light of day? I just don't think he'd let an album sit on the shelf if he thought it was THAT good. Usually, if Noel let's something sit he'll say it's the best song he's written but it's time has passed. But for him to outright call it shit is saying something. I think Noel truly thinks it's shit. There's no real reason for him to lie.

Agree. He usually says something is fantastic when it's a bit mediocre, so when he says it's shit, it probably is.

We know every time Noel has been asked about decent past material he's never rejected the idea of releasing it some day. He doesn't like this record and that's it.

Everything is released one day or another. Maybe Noel wont care in 10 years, maybe when he's dead his estate will release it. We'll get it one day, later rather than sooner. When we're all 60 or something... I'm not waiting for it, coz the remix we heard were shit. The DIV sessions, on the other hand...

Noel was bursting with excitement over the AA album in July 2011. Now he slanders it. That's probably not fair to the AA guys who worked hard on it and originally had Noel's blessing that it was "great". He probably should have never mentioned AA during that press conference. Then it would only be urban legend.

It's bizzare how Noel didn't mentioned he is making another record in the same time and they found out when he announced it on the fuckin' press conference.
But other than that, it obviously didn't sound like a revolution to him.

Then he started making HFB at the end of 2010/early 2011.

I loved Alice in Ultraland but when I hear the remixes and Shoot a hole into the sun I feel like something's missing. It's a shame that they both NG and AA have potential but didnt made it when they worked together.

Interesting opening paragraph in the liner notes to the Wizard's Sleeve remix compilation (by Jon Savage): "Psychedelia is more than a word, it's a state of being. Commonly abbreviated to Psych, it's mainly used to define a period of music - the zenith of which occurred between 66>68. The result is that many people tend to think that it's all over, that psychedelia can be confined to fanzine retrospective, neo-Mod janglers and eBay tag-lines. Or even Oasis."

I reckon the album wasn't as good as he had hoped for, don't think it's as bad as he makin' out. Also if the mixes were so bad why not just work on them? The reason I'm guessin' is that he didn't want to release it as him & his management were taken aback by how well received the first album was, how well everythin' had went & weren't wantin' to turn fans off him. Noel isn't an artist in the truest sense of the word, to me he does what's goin' to make him commercial which is his choice obviously.

Noel should do more work with the Wizard Sleeve guys. I was thoroughly impressed by their work with The Temples and remix of Ballad of The Mighty I.

Just watched EastEnders for the first time in years, and someone in it died with Future Sound of London playing in the background...
