I used the old Freecorder for a while and was great, then it died. Then used the youTube Video Downloader but it seems to have quit working as well.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable and garbage-free YouTube video downloader, especially one that lets you save in MP3 format? I don't mind paying for the program if it works and is free of malware.

I usually use Keepvid (for video) or Offliberty (for mp3), but you should know that if what you're downloading is Oasis bootlegs, then you can get them in much higher quality on here than Youtube rips. Anyways, hope that helps!

I use 4K VIdeo Downloader to download videos of live performances at best quality available, and I rip the audio from them by myself using Audacity. I'm quite sure that there is a direct way of doing this...

I'm sure there's more than enough options for people here already, but I really like youtube-dl (for Linux). It's a command-line based tool, which might scare some users, but it's very small and efficient with lots of options. If you work on computers, and use the terminal frequently, I would recommend having this tool installed as you can efficiently download single videos and playlists by running a simple command, without the need for spam or starting a GUI.
(Upon checking it appears to be available for Windows as well, but I have not tested that version.)
