He's fucking excellent. Age and new-league-trickery are the two factors that could stop him; if the basics go well, he's a great signing for anyone. German media is completely on their knees for him. Insanity. Watch them cry about the not so competitive league in a couple of weeks 🚬

Random thought but props to Gianluigi Buffon for just casually ending his professional football career after almost 28 years in order to start a new job at the Italian national team.

Random thought after the England win over the Matildas
Top 4 isn't bad, but why put Carpenter in a bad position she isn't used to just because Kerr was back?
Also Russo for Arsenal ladies manager when she retires. One of the players I have enjoyed watching this World Cup

Mr Hansi Flick: Please stop terrorizing German Football 😔 There must be something inside DFB that makes the atmosphere around the team toxic. Whom do you want now that Flick is gone? The toxicity is partly their own fault. They turned the national team into a marketing gag after the 2014 title, making it really hard to support them without feeling embarrassed. Ticket prices compared to normal Bundesliga games are stupendously expensive etc. Then there was obviously a lot of corruption, many former figureheads in the DFB had to go after it was unveiled that we bought the WC in 2006. There is a lot more, our youth is shit, we have trouble keeping talents in football, many young kids rather do something else, our youth system is pretty harsh. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, we are in a bit of a sorry state. So what do I think happens now? My best guess would be Julian Nagelsmann, but I kinda hope for a chance at getting Klopp. If there’s one guy who can bring the country together and form some sort of hype: it’s him. But I don’t think he’s going to leave Liverpool unfortunately

But I don’t think he’s going to leave Liverpool unfortunately Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the first time in ages that I look at the German national side and I don't see any genuine world class talent there? Even during some fallow periods in the early 2000s (when they still got to a WC final), they were peppered with at least some class, be it Ballack or Kahn. 2014 seemed a perfect blend of the old and new - the hard running, physical warriors alongside the sleek and silky technicians (which the reforms sought out to develop I believe). Every time I watch Germany now, its all much of a muchness. Not terrible players, but nothing that excites and the playing style is flat. There's nothing distinctive about it anymore. Going off topic, maybe it's a general trend in international football where identities are blending what with the globalisation of ideas and coaching, to the point everything is indistinct. Gone are the days when Spain were defined by tiki taka, Netherlands defined by flair, Germany defined by industry and nerve, Italy defined by guile and tactical acumen. Even the traditionally tactless but physical England are catching up now with technically brilliant players, where now they are blending traditional physicality with real skill. Something that I think will (unfortunately as a Scot!) reap rewards in future tournaments.

Even the traditionally tactless but physical England are catching up now with technically brilliant players, where now they are blending traditional physicality with real skill. Something that I think will (unfortunately as a Scot!) reap rewards in future tournaments. Our biggest problem is that we don’t have a world class striker or full backs. Since Klose and Lahm retired we basically improvise and try different players every game to fill the role but it just doesn’t work. And that’s a youth problem. Because of Löws focus on trying to copy spains style, we lost our own identity, we produce technically great midfielders every year but nothing else. You can see the imbalance every game. We are ball dominant but we can’t score or defend. And it’s difficult to change tactics when you lack options to do so. But yeah, another problem is the rest of the world has caught up in what we called „deutsche Tugenden“, like being physical, defending hard and efficiency in front of the goal, that’s a given nowadays. So what we need is an updated version of what we used to be but the people in position to make reforms changed quite a lot over the past few years, and this chaos is part of the reason why we are where we are

I gotta give a internet shoutout to the Newcastle away support. They were all over t he City on Thursday, the majority didn’t even have tickets but they were there anyway. Great people, great crowd. By far the best English support I’ve seen here.
