Guess Juventus's money works fine outside of Italy as well.

Even though I despise Juventus, I could look objectively at it and admire their achievement, but when a self admitted rapist scores all the goals and gets the while stadium on their feet, that's too much. And where the fuck was VAR för that penalty?

And where the fuck was VAR för that penalty? It amazes me that people keep wondering how powerful men get away for so long with sex crimes, and then when a footballer who said in his own words that he continued to have sex with a woman while she repeatedly said "no" scores a hattrick, the general response is "what a header!".

Atletico with a disgraceful performance though.
They can have no excuses.

Up until they met in the first leg I had honestly somehow forgotten about it. That's crazy! But it says very much about the power of these players and these clubs, "nothing is proved", and until it is he's just a great professional athlete. Can't really blame the commentators too much though since it's their job to focus on what's going on on the pitch, but maybe the perfect compromise would be to simply replace the name with what he really is. Would love to hear "Oh, there's another brilliant pass from the rapist!"

"She said that she didn’t want to, but she made herself available.” And further: “But she kept saying ‘no.’ ‘Don’t do it.’ ‘I’m not like the others.’ I apologized afterwards.” These are hs actual words. No matter of the legal process, he has said these things. With only her words against his it would be completely different. And I was mostly joking about the commentator thing since such an approach would spiral out of control, but I do think he should be way more judged by the public. It seems like sports starts can get away with everything, and one part of that is fans not giving a shit.

not saying he should get away with stuff outside of the game, but no matter what he does in society, hes an amazing player. i cant stop my amazement because i now know hes a rapist (probably). its like with the michael jackson stuff. him being a kiddy fiddler (probably) doesnt make billy jean a sh!t song. the real issue is with the various systems that keep them protected...

As funhouse said, if this was your usual he said/she said situation, I'd agree that everyone is innocent until proven guilty - but when HE said that he had sex with a woman who was telling him to stop, it's pretty hard for me to not consider him a rapist.

Yep. Similair to the whole Trump thing where we didn't just hear about the video of him confessing to sexual assault, but actually got to see it with our own eyes.

Yeah i know and hes a piece of shit but i'm just really careful when it comes to stuff like that. I let a judge in a courtroom decide what really went down rather than the public in a flashmob mentality.

Yeah, I'm not trying to get the man convicted, but I can't really enjoy his football when I know he had sex with an un-consenting woman, but thought it wasn't rape because "she didn't scream". I also find it bewildering and disappointing that I seem to be in the minority on that one.

A lot of people on twitter, r/soccer or here brought it up so it is in everybodys minds. But we are talking about one of the greatest football players of all time scoring three goals so i guess its a very schicophrenic Situation for everybody. Its hard to find the right words because i am totally on your side and i dont want to come across defending him

Just to prove that it's not just about football - Kobe Bryant had a similair position to Ronaldo in his own sport, and what he did was pretty much quickly forgotten about, wasn't it?
(I don't really follow basketball too well, and it was a while ago since I heard/read about it, so please correct me if I'm wrong)

But its the same with Michael Jackson right now, i cant listen to him no more while i still love Woody allen movies. Its complicated and i dont really know whats the right thing to do. But its a good thing that people talk about it. Thats at least a little progress IMO.

Not sure why, maybe because it's an intellectual thing rather than physical? Obviously anyone who has committed crime beyond a reasonable doubt should be punished, and punished equally, though. Anyway...what about Schalke, then?

Kobe raped someone in a hotel, 100% was guilty and they settled it out of court. He got away with it big time.
And yeah 15 years on it's been totally forgotten about.

No, it was this case: m.sfgate.com/entertainment/the-wrap/article/Kobe-Bryant-Rape-Accusation-From-2003-Resurfaces-12518937.php#photo-2180787No self admission to hold against him so maybe it's a bit unfair to compare with Ronaldo, but still, it's just so easy for mega stars to just sweep these kinds of things under the rug.

For me it's all about how their art is reflective of their charachter. I can probably never listen to Ryan Adams "feeling so bad for such a little girl" again, but I have no problem listening to a racist maniac like Ted Nugent act like the definitive guitar hero on 'Stranglehold', because he's just rocking out, displaying the best side of himself. In retrospect I think Schalke 04 was a too optimistic choice for a club name.

John Lennon beat up his GF or wife iirc yet everybody celebrates him as Mr. Peace. As for Kobe: I didnt know that. And Schalke: im a Dortmund fan and they are our biggest rivals sooooo i enjoyed that quite a lot
