I think if you listen to the first single, Supersonic, and the last one, Falling Down, there's quite a difference. I think Noel said once "I said everything I needed to in our first album", so I guess you could say after Definitely Maybe, he didn't want to write great social songs like Cigarettes and Alcohol, or Live Forever.
If you think about it as well, most people say their favourite Oasis songs/albums are from the early period, so Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory and Be Here Now. So that means, even when they're listening to newer Oasis stuff, like the last few albums, the older stuff is still in their head as a point of reference. Heathen Chemistry is a great album, but it will never be an all time great album because people always compare Oasis' stuff to the first two albums like.
