An assist machine and a very hard working player underneath the media machine.
Any player who has worked with him praise his work ethic.
Has to be said though the English media overhyped him a tad.

Strictly for the dramatics. The Greece by far. Got them in World Cup , Nevada smiths went mental ....they actually did a piece in the papers how we shut down 3 rd avenue , it was like the World Cup was won after sheringham tied it ...it looked like we nicked a draw , then Greece scored , literally last kick of tie put us on ( yes I know I'm from USA ). Best moment for me ....l. Followed by that long goal then argentina redemption

Can't believe some folk think he never achieved the maximum in his career - this man was part of the greatest British club side of all time winning that treble in 99. Can't underestimate any guy who played for Man Utd, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Big fan of him, every club he played for he put in 110%. Personally, going to America was far too premature because he played for AC Milan (think he had two spells, no?) in the close season and was brilliant for them - would have been great to have seen him play for Milan after Madrid ideally.

Was he overrated though? There's always a media blackout when it comes to the England national side for me so maybe it was for international football, but he did well for his clubs though.

He was a shirt seller every club he went too was adidas. He went to America cos adidas wanted him too and they wanted him to be a poster boy for 'soccer' and their shirts.. Great player but once he left United was all about his 'brand'

He left too soon for the USA, could have given a couple of good years at Madrid.

Was he a good player? Of course, you'd have to be to play in that midfield he played in, but he wasn't as good as people made him out to be. Scholes had 100 times the ability of this guy, but he isn't even mentioned in the same breath as Beckham (outside of Manchester anyway).

He is in no way better than Scholes I agree and I don't know anyone who would say he is better than Scholes to be honest. Maybe those who don't watch football enough but I personally think Scholes is one of England's greatest ever footballers. Shows how crap Sven was when he didn't even use him properly in England (not that I'm complaining). But I still think Beckham was an integral part of that treble side, and I can't underestimate anyone who played a part in something that is unlikely to be replicated soon.
