Watched the second Lord of the Rings film the other night because sleep is for the FUCKING weak.
It was alright. I wouldn't mind this trilogy if people didn't carry on as if they were up there with The Godfather and 2001: A Space Odyssey as masterpieces of film-art. They're dumb, entertaining action films with elves riding down stairs on shield-skateboards and dwarves being thrown over bridges. Watchable and well-paced, yes, but one of the greatest films of all time? Not a chance.

Today I watched:
- Nightcrawler - When Harry Met Sally - From Dusk Till Dawn
When Harry Met Sally was definitely my favourite, Billy Crystal was amazing in it, and I really bought the friendship between him and Meg Ryan. From Dusk Till Dawn was great too, mainly due to Tarantino's always-entertaining dialogue and Salma Hayek's body. Nightcrawler was pretty good, but just felt like a more predictable re-hash of The King of Comedy.

PC Dodds steals the episode, looking good Fish in that lamp shade.

Jute City.
I wonder if that 30 seconds of Ferguson yelling near the end was adlibbed.

True Detective season 1 (rewatching, 2 episodes left)
I got a question for someone who knows: Is season 2 completely unrelated to all that happens in the first season? I know it is a different cast and plot and all, but maybe they connected the seasons in some way? What I'm asking is basically if I will miss anything if I go straight to season 3? (since season is apparently not very good)

Cage
Watching 1 person in a cage for 118 minutes, boring.

The new Das Boot mini series on Hulu. Yes I know it came out in Germany and the UK last November but us Americans just got it this week. The show is at its best when out to sea with the crew. Less so on shore with the French resistance. I just don't care about them. Great cliffhanger. The original might be in my top 3 World War II movies of all time.

I've watched "Kill your friends", read the book a few years ago and just now the second one, "Kill 'em all". It was OK, the movie, but Nicholas Hoult really did not fit into that role, way too pretty. Nice soundtrack though, including "Cigarettes and alcohol" and all the other 90ies bands.
