What do you think? I think the Lord of the Rings trilogy has to be the most sleep inducing movies of all time. First of all, not a fantasy fan at all - the real world is fascinating enough and I can't relate to elves and talking trees.
The plot is dull - why did Frodo not get on one of those big birds that Gandalf flies and drop the ring in that big fire, simple as and he would have been home in time for tea. Instead, we had to sit through 9 hours of cringeworthy sexual tension between Frodo and Sam.
And the characters are all one dimensional and just dull, dull, dull.
Right, that's my opinion, no matter how off the scale it is, so what are the reasons for your most overrated films?

I've never understood the fascination with Star Trek. At least in Star Wars there is some action, but Star Trek is an absolute snooze!

A Clockwork Orange.
I find it almost unwatchable. While other Kubrick movies are great (Shining above all), I really can't stand that one.

I'm surprised by the Lord of the Rings mentions. One of the three greatest trilogies of all-time in my opinion. Three films, I find it hard to believe that all three could be overrated. But to each their own I guess.
I watch a lot of classic Hollywood studio films, so I'd say, Gone with the Wind and West Side Story. Two of the literally most overrated movies of all-time, especially considering that Gone With the Wind is considered one of the three greatest movies of all-time and West Side Story is suppose to be the greatest musical of all-time or at least 1a., but I don't think highly of either of them.

The Lord Of The Rings.
However, I did watch all trilogies and even bought VHS's back in time and I enjoyed watching, but I wouldn't risk my life for THE ring to save the world. Yes, I'm weak, but am not Frodo, never wil and never want to be.

Avatar maybe? Sure its good but is it THAT good? Extremely well-made (CGI and such), but average plot. Nothing exceptional.

Nearly all of the Harry Potter films, they're not a touch on the books bar the first few films IMO, the acting is pretty poor (Daniel Radcliffe...) and the scripts are very simplistic with some cringe-worthy "comic relief" moments.

Gone with the wind is useless, but West Side Story is pretty good. Depressing, but good. I watch a lot of musicals, my family raised me on them. I always skip the opening scene, because it is about 10 minutes too long, but after that it moves along pretty well. And is brilliant on stage. However, most Rodgers and Hammerstein offerings are true snoozers! All of them are about an hour too long, and drag like hell. The Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific, etc.

Avatar is the most overrated film of all time. In terms of scenario yes but in terms of cinematography and direction no. Plus the 3D is the best quality of all of the fims had released so far, as far as i'm concerned.

Avatar is the most overrated film of all time. In terms of scenario yes but in terms of cinematography and direction no. Plus the 3D is the best quality of all of the fims had released so far, as far as i'm concerned. Its essentially an overly expensive animated movie with a very basic plot and average acting.
