So i know this isnt the exact best place to post for help on this but anyway... I've set up a stereo amplifier and the sound comes through the 2 hifi speakers but the vocal channel is virtually silent. Its like listening to 5.1 but without half the channels. Im only using 2 standard hifi speakers. Its not the speakers because ive checked them with another hifi and they worked. Also used some other speakers and had the same problem with the sound. Also connected up headphones and they had the quiet vocals aswell. Its definatly the apmplifier because when i connect the headphones directly in the cd part of the hifi the sound comes through great. Anyone got any idea what the problem cound be and if its fixable?? Thanks for any replies

What's hooked up to your amp? What cables are you using to hook up your music device to the amp?

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to use to amp to play music from my laptop through the hifi speakers. so i've only got the amp and the cd player on top of it. Just wanted to get it working as i dont have the lead to go from the laptop yet. I've got the tuner and record player but havent connected them.
I have RCA pin cords going from the cd player to the amp that that is the only input to the amp. i've tried a few different cables but with no difference.
I'll hook up the record player and send that through the phono input and see if it has the same sound issues.

So the record player works fine, no sound issues. Any ideas what could be the issue? Its not with the cd player because as i said you can listen through headphones without going through the amp and it works fine. Thanks for your help

Hmmm sounds strange. Maybe the audio inputs on the amp are faulty if you could take some pics of your signal chain might help a bit to see how its hooked up.

Ok, so i stumbled across a cable in the house to connect my laptop to the amp and again that works fine, no sound issues. a fair amount of humming but ive got some better speaker cables that may help with that? Ive attached a pic of the setup, sorry its pretty bad... Amp on bottom, cd player abover then record player on top. The bottom left cables come from the record player, next in from the cd and the silver and blue go into the tuner input from the laptop. The latop sound works through the tuner input, but the cd player had the sound issues through the same input. so im starting to think it may not be to do with the amp but the connections in the cd player? Right, so i was just fiddling around with it again and i think i figured out the problem. Its to do with the connections in the back of the amplifier. I have a song playing from my laptop, and a cd playing through the cd player at the same time. Both through the amp and their seperate inputs. If i set both the laptop and the cd player playing a song, and the input into the amplifier is set to the laptop. If i mute the sound on my laptop, i can hear the missing sound from the cd (loud vocals quiet instruments) even though the amp is not set to the cd input. Then when i switch to the cd input i have the quiet vocals again. It seems that while the cd player is playing, some of the sound is lost into another input and the amp does not play this input and therfore loses that sound. When i switch to that input, i hear it aswell as the missing sound. Probs overcomplicated that explination but anyway. There must be some mixed connection in the back of the amp. Will probably have to be opened up and looked in. Thanks for your help NoelsOasis, really appreciate it

It might be worth taking it to be looked at. Could be a simple fix. Sounds like one of inputs is faulty though.
