What a game that was. Harbaugh is incredible, I was ready to suit up for him by the end! Tbh, I think that Alex Smith really bailed out Harbaugh. His offensive game plan was atrocious. They passed far too much this game. They made it to the playoffs because they have a great defense, they run the ball on first and second downs and they have Smith pass the ball on third and shorts for easy first down conversions. They should have run it a lot more and there were highly some questionable calls such as the flee flicker. If they had lost, then I think a lot of people would have been questioning his game plan. Thankfully Alex Smith came through in the final five minutes.

it was a hell of a game. I was glad to see SanFran win, even if i picked NO to advance.

What was with the two interference calls. Also I'm on track for a Patriots-Packers SB.

I'm hoping for a repeat of Super Bowl XLII, only this time i'll be rooting for a Patriots win. For that to happen, Giant will need to beat Green Bay tomorrow, just like they did that year.

Anyone know if there was a player named Simpson who played for the Giants?

3-1 this week and 7-1 overrall. I really thought the Texans would pull that out.
Still haven't really made my picks for next week. My tentative ones are:
The Patriots over The Ravens.
I know the Ravens have been like kryptonite for the Patriots (they've knocked them out of the playoffs the last 2 out of 3 years), but I'm going with the Patriots for the same reason I went with the Texans. I just CAN NOT trust that Baltimore offense. They're up, they're down. For them to win against the Patriots they would have to hold the score down to the high 20's range and I don't think they'll be able to pull it off. So I'll go with the Patriots.
The second game is the trickier one. It's literally 50-50. I'm going with the Giants. Eli is just as capable of laying an egg as Alex Smith, yet both are just as capable to win a game for you as Alex Smith proved this weekend. I find the defense of both teams to equally matched, but the 49ers have a better running game. Frank Gore is a literal beast. The game is also at the 49ers, yet I'm going with the Giants in a squeaker. The only reason is because it just seems like deja vu and the Giants are on such a good roll, that I think that they'll pull it through. I literally have no other reason to pick them. It's just a gut feeling because everything says that the 49ers should pull this game out. The only other reason I can see for the Giants winning is the fact that the 49ers win was a highly emotional win and usually teams have let downs after those tpye of games. So I'm picking Giants.

4 teams left, and 3 of them play killer D. As ever, that ain't a coincidence.
(Not saying the Pats can't beat the Ravens, but there's no way the Pats are winning the Super Bowl.)

Packers really laid an egg there. Damn. Essentially 4 fumbles and 8 drops.
We've got 2 pretty awesome games next weekend tho. Giants/49ers is a tough call. It's hard to bet against the Giants right now with the roll they're on.
If it ends up Giants/Pats again in the Super Bowl I'd have to go with the Giants. If it's Pats/49ers I think I'd go Pats.

I would almost agree with your accessment, except you forgot one factor in the Giants vs. Patriots matchup, Tom Brady. That guy is literally like michael Jordan. He remembers every slight, every failure, and holds grudges. He still remembers that loss he was handed and he will not let the rest of the Patriots forget it. Tom Brady will be a scary scary scary man to see in the Super Bowl. I can't make a pick for the Super Bowl yet because I have to see how these teams play leading up to it. If I had to make an early pick. 49ers win in a matchup against the Patriots, the Giants would lose. The Giants have everything except a run game. And whatever team beats the Patriots will need a running game to play a possession type game. The 49ers actually have the better set of personel to beat the Patriots. They have Frank Gore who can run it enough to keep ball away from Tom Brady, they have the D-line to put pressure on Brady, and they have a defense that can slow them down, while also having the wide recievers to take advantage of the weak Patriots secondary. If the Giants had a running game, then it'd be an easier pick. But their lack of one makes me hesitant of picking them to win a game against the Patriots.

Let's just put it this way...if the Pats make it and I had a gun to my head or I was forced to put a substantial amount of money on the Super Bowl...I would put my money on Brady. I agree with your points about the 49ers, but I just think Brady would beat them. They're a really good team, but I don't know that I see Alex Smith delivering against Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. I think the stage would be too big for him and you'd see him regress a bit. Eli can fuck up a bit and the Giants can still stay in the game and then he can bring it home in the 4th like he did in 07 and like he's been doing most of the year...and I don't even like him.
Brady is unreal and I actually hope they win it all, BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants beat them, should they both make it. It's hard as hell to pick against Brady and it's pretty hard to pick against the Giants with what they've been doing.
I'm rooting for the Pats now because I was just in awe watching him throw the ball the other night. I was telling a friend of mine, when there was just over 2 minutes to go in the 1st half and the Pats got the ball, "I guarantee Tom Brady marches down the field and scores before the half...it'll take a minute and a half" and like 3 plays and 30 seconds later they scored. That pass to Deion Branch down the sideline was just unfair. That was the first time in a long time I just sat there and said "holy shit...did you see that?". I was stunned.

Brady is incredible, obviously, and he may possess the same win-or-die attitude that MJ had, but he doesn't play D and, say it with me, "defense wins championships." :-) AND unlike Mike, he has proven to be quite beatable in the playoffs (see the last two years). So it's tough to say that his will-to-win will be enough. Assuming The Pats are going to make it to the Super Bowl, they are about to play the two toughest games of their season.

No he doesn't play D. But beilef has a lot to do with whether you win or lose and that team believes in Tom Brady. The same way an Indianapolis Colts who won the Super Bowl with a bad defense believed in Peyton Manning. It's not that one can't win a Super Bowl with a bad defense, it's that it rarely happens. 1983 Raiders also won with just as bad as defense and so did the 1968 Jets. Belief is enough and if Brady instills enough belief in his team, then that Defense could go out there and play. Remember, no one is asking the Patriots defense to shut down anyone. They really don't have to with the offense that they have. They're asking them to be only average, maybe slghtly above average. If the Patriots D plays just slightly above average then that will be enough to win the Super Bowl. Yes defense wins Super Bowls, but that defense doesn't have to be shut down. It just has be just good enough. I found this to be pretty interesting- www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/7_1345_Worst_Super_Bowl-winning_defenses.html"History and common sense tells us it will be a long, long time before another team wins a Super Bowl after surrendering more points than the Colts did this year." Found the last blurb in there to be interesting too. This was written in 2006 before almost every single QB and offensive record fell. I wonder what his opinion would be now. The Pats averaged 21.4 ppg. I'm not saying the Patriots will win the Super Bowl no matter what, but I think it's jumping the gun to say that they will not win the Super Bowl no matter what.

I would love for the Patriots to get back to the Super Bowl, play against the Giants and kick the shit out of them to make up for 2007. Tom Brady deserves a revenge fuck against Eli and company. Tough task ahead first with Baltimore but I have faith.

Called the upset of the week NYG/GB. 15-1 record my ass. Aside from that, there were no surprises.
picked the Giants and Pats to make it to the SB so i'm it's looking good, Although Baltimore did upset NE a couple of years ago. Can't remember where they played.

You from Boston, lennon2217? No. I am from New Jersey. Born and raised. As a kid I couldn't handle all the New York City transplants that moved to the Jersey suburbs and then tried to FORCE FEED their sports teams on to you (Yankees/Mets/Giants/Jets/Knicks/Rangers). Naturally I rebelled and became a Red Sox fan and Patriots supporter. Pisses them all off.

I hate the teams there and their local radio stations degrade any other team not from there. I only support Canberra United if it's any team from there (This year is our year, girls!)

I'm 9-1 these playoffs. Top that. I've got Brady and the Patriots in the Superbowl. I'll say why later. But I can say that it has to do with the lack of a Giants running game.

Two things: 1) Anyone hoping the superbowl does not go to OT like me? 2) Did the same Simpsons episode that predicted the walkover of Denver 9 years later, predict the champions?
