A rare Noel Gallagher interview to Globo News (brazilian TV channel) surfaces today. It was recorded in Orlando during their HC Tour.
He talks 20 minutes long about Oasis split, music, getting older, new bands (White Stripes quote is mega) and a hipotetic solo album.
It's really really great.

Thanks. Interesting bit about what Noel would do if Oasis ended.
"I'd probably make one solo album then retire.'
I know it was 9 years ago and Noel seems to change his mind as often as he changes his underwear but that would put a whole new spin on what he is amping up for now if that is still the way he is still thinking. He's always maintained that he never wanted a 'solo career' just to make a solo album. It's crazy to think about Noel leaving music...but I could almost imagine it...at least leaving for a long chunk of time until he got bored.
We could conceivably not be awaiting a solo career from Noel...but a single solo record and that is all.
If that is his plan...god I hope he takes his time and makes a blinder. Something that'll make the world moarn when he announces that was it.

thanks Allison, it's a really good interview. Yes, it's going to be pretty sad if Noel only puts out 1 album and that's it, hopefully he was only bullshitting the brazilian guy...

"Our first two albums were GREAT... the second two were GOOD. This one (Heathen Chemistry) is GREAT."
It's safe to say you should take everything that escapes Noel's mouth with a pinch of salt.

They could have put a clip of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.

He's always way too high on the new album. In 1997 he was asked what three tunes he wants to be remembered for and he said Live Forever, Wonderwall, and Magic Pie.

I don't think Noel ever believes his own mantra that the newest album is the best since DM; he just does it for promotional reasons. Although I do think, at the time at least, he did rate Magic Pie. I can see where he's coming from. That tune has the hallmarks of an epic, but never truly panned out. Although I am a firm lover of Magic Pie, to be honest.

Nice find, never seen this interview before. The guy interviewing is noticeably nervous at times because Noel is very blunt. Noel is so straight out that he even makes himself nervous a couple times during that, but he mellowed out a bit more on the DBTT tour I think.

And he does admit that he thought that BHN and SOTSOG were great @ the time but they just didn't last. Obviously the same thing happened for HC.
I think that Noel is perfectly aware that he is too close to objectively comment on his albums when they are newly released...as all of us should be.

Noel is disarmingly blunt at times. He's a moody bastard.
Also, I think during this time he was going through his divorce with Meg or had just gone through it so that could account for his mood. But the Chief is just naturally distant. As he says, "I was born a loner."

This is HC era...so he should have already have split with Meg a couple years previous...but he did split up with Sara for a bit in I think it was 2002.

This interview was recorded by the time him, Alan and Jay got involved on that car accident, so maybe he didn't really want to be there. A few gigs were cancelled and all.
