hi all, don't imagine this is the best place to get help on this, but i figured i would give it a shot anyway... what have i got to lose? i installed cool edit pro on a new hp laptop with windows 7... and it's not working properly (has a few bugs) ... it always worked fine before with my old compter that had xp... then i did some digging online and found several instances of cool edit compatibility problems with windows 7... i did find a few 'fixes' on other forums, but these usually involve making major 'dll' changes to the operating system, and i'm not sure i want to do that with a brand new computer that is otherwise running like a DREAM machine. now,, it DOES let you 'right click' on the cool edit icon and temporarily 'change' settings back to xp service pack 3 while cool edit is running... but i still can't seem to rip cd audio with cool edit (it's not 'recognizing/ seeing' my f drive--- which is the cd-dvd drive) as well as a few of the other features that cool edit has to offer... anyone know of any 'fixes' that WON'T involve making major changes to the operating system? thanks for reading, and sorry for the long post

I remember installing it in windows 7 and I had to add a .dll to the system32 folder. and also use it xp compatibility. but it should be temporary. do it with the administrator account. however, I don't remember having that cd/dvd drive issue. maybe you can try adding those .dlls and see if it's fix. BUT create a restore point before so you can go back if antyhing goes wrong

cheers eva, i'm really a dummy when it comes to that type of stuff... perhaps i'll have a 'pro' do it for me... i would say, it seems to be about... 80-90 % functional when i right click on the cool edit icon and select 'troubleshoot compatibility' (or something like that) then select 'windows xp service pack 3' .... now everytime i start up cool edit i get a window asking if i want to allow cool edit pro to make changes to my computer (probably to temporarily change the settings to xp) ... i mean, before i did that i couldn't even play an mp3 or .wav with it : / so maybe i should just take the 80-90 % , and be happy with it and quit while i'm ahead
