One of my favourite bands, massively underrated. First album is pretty good, though I always ignore the Oasis style rockers which are rubbish. Love the ballads and anthems on it though.
Out of Nothing is bloody amazing though. For a band to comeback like that after years in the wilderness after the band members were on the dole shows real guts, determination and talent. No band today could do that.
This New Day is amazing as well. Not quite as good as Out of Nothing, but still great nonetheless.
So what are your thoughts on them? Love em or hate em.

So what are your thoughts on them? Love em or hate em. I've got a real-love hate thing going with them (I hesitate to use the phrase 'guilty pleasure' cos I think it's for wankers). Their tunes.. some of them are really wonderful but it's a thin line between emotionally affecting and lapsing into MOR territory.. but I've bought some of the records. Obviously Danny's voice is dreadfully weak and often flat, in the words of a 1997 Noel Gallagher interview "the c**t wants to get singing lessons". I can see how they get a lot of grief from hardcore alternative music fans, but it's only pop music at the end of the day. The single remix/re-recording of I Wouldn't Wanna Happen To You (re-acquainted myself with this on Spotify recently) is among their best songs. But the song that made me a fan and my favorite tune of theirs is the live version(s) of The Good Will Out, which blew my mind when I first heard it with Richard's magnificent guitar fills and lines, none of which were present on the weak studio version, I hate it when that happens! This is a gorgeous version

The guy knows how to write a tune, but not necessarily hold one.
I still really like the debut and the follow up.

Embrace had a lot going for themselves until Chris Martin stepped in. Since then they attracted a pop crowd & at their gigs were more concerned with chart positions & record sales, what was once a very good Indie band turned to a bunch of tossers
Some of them were on JSA in 2002..........
I dunno, lets say this I was so close to walking out of their gig back in 2005, it was so shit!

I personally felt something was wrong with the audience in 2004 & 2005 as it was the Indie Pop crowd that had invaded, many who had not seen Embrace before
Did you know the band asked the forum members to had out leaflets to get the Single 'Ashes to No.1 back in 2004?
I saw Danny & his longtime GF at the time at a Vines gig in the summer of 2002, they looked at me as if they knew me lol
Embrace back in 2000 & 2001 were some of the best gigs I'd ever been to & still have great memories of it but they just changed big time.
I would never see them again, a great debut LP, good 2nd LP, trashy 3rd but very good live, OFN, yuk, the last LP, Coma material.

Love their music.
Saw them in boro a couple of years back, is it danny the singer?, anyway they sounded good but he just didn't seem a natural frontman, bit nervous i think.

Well, This New Day was the latest album - reached No 1 in the charts, while lead single Nature's Law got to No 2 in the charts. So it was really successful for them.

I used to love this band. I thought their songwriting was fantastic, I would actually have gone as far as to say that some of my favourite lyrics were Embrace's and even though I understood the criticism of Danny McNamara's voice I personally felt he got too much stick for it.
Now, I understand the criticisms of this band a lot more however I still have a place for them. A lot of their tunes still sound great if I'm in the mood and nostalgia will always play a role in my judgement of Embrace.
I also disagree with the comment about his ability as a frontman. The first time I saw them was at a V Festival and they were a fantastic festival band. They put on a really great show, involved the crowd a lot and his abilities as a frontman were top drawer that day.

Their frontman is kinda shit. Their tunes aren't bad Ashes is a tune and Gravity is pretty good though Coldplay's version is just amazing.

I'm a big fan of Embrace and The Stone Roses, so how come Ian Brown can get away with being a shit singer while Danny McNamara can't? Chris Martin gave it to Embrace because he felt it sounded more like an Embrace song rather than a Coldplay one, athough both Embrace's and Coldplay's versions are brilliant.

Technically speaking both Ian Brown and Danmny McNamara are shit singers. However I think theres more character, more intent in Ian Browns voice. I'm not sure I can really compare the two because I think one is far better than the other but I do however understand your point.
You dont need to be able to sing to be in a rock band. You need to have a voice that suits the music you play. Bob Dylan has a terrible voice yet its never mattered because the man is one of the most recognised songwriters in the world. Liam Gallagher is a shit singer, but a good vocalist for a band like Oasis. John Lydon is a terrible singer but put someone with a trained singing voice in the Sex Pistols and they lose their appeal, they lose the reasons people have for loving them.
Danny McNamara's voice isnt overly powerful, he doesnt have much of a range and so his vocal delivery can sometimes be somewhat reserved and flat but I happen to think that delivery suits Embrace's slower material very well, using the likes of Thats All Changed, Satellites and My Weakness Is None Of Your Business as examples. He's not so strong with the faster material and he certainly has commited vocals to record that probably could have done with a little re-think first but even though I can understand people's criticism of his voice I also think too much gets made of it. His voice is not quite AS much of an issue as people have made it out to be.

love embrace, and the like of your not alone, target, good will out are great songs, ian brown doesn't get away with being a bad singer though, he gets more bad reviews than any of the top frontmen ever because of his vocals, he doesn't claim to be good either. the thing with him is that he wrote songs like this is the one while on the dole and it would be a travesty if we had never got the chance to hear tracks like that, the same with a lot of embrace songs.
