If a musician becomes too good at shredding and playing at the speed of light, then he will probably start that vulgar exhibitionism for 5 minutes of popularity or for getting respect from some guitar religious fanatics. Instead, Noel was blessed with a songwriting that could hook million of people in the world into a solid musical career through the years, making lots of money, filling stadiums, and therefore becoming one of the biggest bands of it's time. Again, judging NG by his technical skills is like judging a ferrari for its capabilities to go underwater. Who gives a fuck wether a ferrari can do that or not? We love that car for other stuff. Well, the same applies here, it's not really relevant to judge NG by his technical skills. Even if Noel were as good as Satriani we would never notice it, cos his songs don't need that style. Having a good technique doesn't imply knowing how to shred. Its a sum of things. ..and I'm sorry, but I do not agree with the "vulgar exhibitionism" term, especially in cases that are truly inspiring. But this is very relative, cos it depends of our personal vision about music, even art in general. Personally, I lean towards emotion accompanied with a clever/unique technique. Last but not least, judging NG by technical skills was the topic of this discussion regardless if its right/wrong/irrelevant by your standard. Maybe this sounds a bit harsh (and is not really my intention), but it is better to encourage this kind of conversations rather than tag them as "pointless".

Yes sure, i was only trying to be clear by exaggerating the things a little bit. Perhaps i was inconcsiously speaking to the youtube pricks that look down on noel cos he isn't like the gunsnroses dude with hat that plays hyperbolic stuff.

Yes sure, i was being rethorical. Figurative.
The point is, Noel has few technical skills when compared to other guitarists, but they're enough to execute that excellent and simple songwriting.

Noel is a poor guitarist, and even I have more technique, but he's 124125135612361351 times better songwriter than me.

Great songwriter doesn't mean a great or even good guitarist. He's a great songwriter, but only a competent guitarist. His main weaknesses does not just boil down to technique. He's very much a one dimensional guitarist. Truly great guitarists are adaptable to any playing style and pull whatever style of music into their own guitar playing.

If Noel was a professional guitarist though, it wouldn't be the Oasis we all know and love today.

Noel is good enough with a guitar to make a fabulous living off of it.

there's an intro to supersonic on the budokan '98 bootleg that can easily quash any silly talk of Noel Gallagher's inadequacies as a guitarist.
