Bad beats: Oasis drummer fired

LONDON--(AP)

"Alan White has been asked to leave Oasis by the other members of the band," reads a short, official statement on the Oasis website.

The dismissal, is the latest in a long line of changes for the British rock group. White replaced former drummer Tony McCarroll back in 1995. In 1999, guitarist Paul Arthurs and bassist Paul McGuigan departed in favour of Andy Bell and Gem Archer. Only Noel Gallagher, and brother Liam remain from the original line up.

White's departure came following a number of recent disputes with lead guitarist and songwriter, Noel Gallagher.

In 2002, while Oasis were touring in Japan, a scuffle ensued between Noel and Alan backstage, when Noel made comments about Alan's lacklustre drumming performances to Japanese reporters.

Last month, the Gallagher brothers learned that Alan was responsible for the leaking of their 2002 album, "Heathen Chemistry" onto the internet, 3 months before release.

Alan, who had several copies of the finished disc, allowed one copy to be put in the hands of an NME.com reporter.

The final decision to fire White came when Alan failed to show up for Oasis' rehearsal sessions last week.
