When an album "leaks", how does that happen? Who is responsible? How many people have access to albums before they're released? It's all very mysterious to me. Anyone know? Also, is it common?

I don't know how it happens. probably someone of the media that gets access to the album before the official release.
it's very very common, every album that's eagerly awaited by anyone gets leaked. even X&Y got leaked a week before it's release and I read somewhere they had a lot of precaution with it.

Most times I hear about leaked songs is because either someone in the band, record company, or production team gave it to someone who wasn't supposed to share it.

Alan White was kicked out of Oasis because it was found out he leaked Heathen Chemistry, amongst other reasons.

So are there leaks usually only when the album is finished or do songs get leaked before it is even decided what songs are on a record?

no its not, its the true reason Alan was kicked out. What was bullshit was the reason Noel gave. He gave it to a friend or a journalist and it leaked.

I guess an album leaks anyway, Oasis's, not Oasis's, with or without a particular reason. You just can't stop leaking songs/films/albums these days.

What I know is that an X member of this forum sent me a fake AP Canada credited story saying that's why Alan was kicked out. The wanker got his 5 mins of glory because I stupidly put it up in the newsroom and retracted it within 15 mins...the damage was done , it spread like wildfire since L4E had mega traffic as it was unfolding...

I had actually heard that from someone pretty close to the band, so I always believe it was true. I always thought it was a better reason than the one Noel gave. But hey you never know

It is a bullshit rumour. Nowadays most of the albums do leak. I don't believe Alan was responsible for it. And even if he was - come on, he left/got kicked an year-and-half after the leak, just before starting recording the sixth album. This is real bullshit and I don't believe it is respectful to even speak about, considering Alan's immense contribution to the band stature and sound.

What I heard was they just found out about it a year and half later. As for giving Alan respect, I have lots of respect for his contributions, but he DID get kicked out the band due to the fact, as per Noel, that his heart wasnt in it anymore. And THAT takes my respect for him down a level. As for the not talking about, thats a bit weird, ya know he really isnt dead

I don't know if that was the case. I guess it was, though White never related about this matter and I respect that. It is a band made of grown up men that make mature decisions. If Alan was dissatisfied with his life in Oasis and hadn't the heart and soul in playing the band - that's ok with me. He is better than Starkey, but I respect the decision to leave - whoever made it. I certainly hope Alan is happier, healthier and better than before. At least that's what his brother told me on his official site... So, I hope and wish Alan everything best in life and hope that he will continue with his career, although it's been almost 4 years since he left and he is reclusive from media and drumming.
